Situated in the centre of York, a stone’s throw from the cathedral, this listed property was once council offices before being renovated into high-end residential town houses. The property was one of the few houses lucky enough to retain an outdoor space and the client wanted to create a wow-factor urban courtyard. With careful consideration to the neighbouring properties and listed building status, PWP designed a highly contemporary scheme in fitting with the client’s home and lifestyle.
Bespoke CNC cut indigenous stone was used for step details and three “ripple” effect 2m-high stone wall panels were installed. Features include a specially designed cantilevered pergola with laser-cut copper screens housing an outdoor TV viewed from the sunken cedar hot tub and a “Dark Planet” David Harber sculpture nestled beneath a row of pleached hornbeam. PWP designed, built and continues to maintain this scheme.
