FROSTS LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION - PRINCIPAL AWard WINNER 2018
LONDON WALL PLACE
A 500,000 ft squared development of two landmark commercial buildings is set within an area of over two acres, 50 percent of which is public realm. A unique destination and major amenity has been created through a series of new gardens set amongst the historic landmarks of the Roman city wall and St Alphage church tower ruins. Located on London Wall, between Moorgate and the Barbican, the gardens draw direct inspiration from the surrounding open spaces of the Barbican, St Alphage Garden, Salters Rose Garden and beyond.
The urban setting creates varied microclimatic conditions across the site with the tall intricate patterns of sun and shade, which change throughout the year. The lawns are located in the sunniest locations and planting design reflects varying levels of light and shade.
The contractor supplied and installed all subsoil, topsoil, tree sands, trees, hedges, shrubs, herbaceous plants, bulbs, turf and mulch to bring the scheme to fruition. Close monitoring by the landscape architect and contractor post completion has ensured a high success rate for plant establishment.
